Garden – November 2021

21/11/2021 Leave a comment

Well, it took a long time but Autumn is now over and the cold of Winter has arrived. Sunny, cold and chilling winds from the North. The weeds are dying back, the lawn has had it’s last mow of the year and I’m emptying the pots of their compost. The Green Summer Onions are coming on well with the red ones following slowly behind. I’ve got some rather nice Spring Onions indoors but they are not going to last very long. It will soon be seed buying time again.

Garden – October 2021

The main thing, all of October and no frost. Infact, quite mild and some days rather hot. Lots of rain and some flooding. The Hedge is on the turn and due to the weather, the outside Peppers are still going strong. Some issues with the lawn mainly due to overfeeding and weed killer, however it is still nice and green. The Summer Onions are coming along well and the main garden needs digging (again). Everything is going to slow down from now on.

Not Trusting The App

17/10/2021 Leave a comment

A Saturday Emergency Beano. An RTA on Newport Road. The bus before mine I saw tacking the Graig-y-Rhacca route. The Stagecoach App said everything was fine. I decided to wait at the bus stop on the Graig-y-Rhacca route. I was right. And while we are at it, what is it with PIA and the Cloud’s captive portal under iOS? Still it didn’t rain. Tiny Rebel Newport, not quite back to normal. I miss the fridge full of Guest Fine Ales. And it was the 50A back home.

Planning My Tech

The day after the Apple iPhone Announcement 2021. A time to cogitate and plan, maybe the odd Fine Ale as well. A pleasant classic Autumn morning to start the day. A new Transport for Wales Rail timetable meaning my train left five minutes earlier.

My Costa points are now Beans which means they cannot be exchanged for Bacon Rolls, however Beans mean you can have whatever size Coffee you want and the large is very large. The Gatekeeper is full of Welsh Ales which is somewhat of a mixed bag. However, the supply of Hazy Jane is plentiful, luckliy.

Bubs was quiet to start and cool in the midday Sun. The wall menu had a shed load of sours, so it was start at the top and work my way down. That with Stevie Ray Vaughan and fast WiFi set the scene for the afternoon. There was was of course some TikiBar and the DrinkBot made an appearance. Good Autumnal Times.

I’ll Take The Long Way There

The 50A due to Costa not opening until 08:00. Confused Autumnal weather with no Hazy Jane shortage in The Larry. Old School but fast WiFi and Cask Ale in the Pen & Wig. And when a Cask is fresh on and the Ale is Fine, well that’s the Way Forward. A large tray od Chips from nowhere near the Sea and then on to Tiny Rebel. Runners going from the Bar to the Brewery. Cask, Keg and a Can whilst going very old school with Tiki Bar TV. A sunny end to the day.

Garden – September 2021

Autumn is here and so is the September high pressure. Grey in the morning and sunny and warm in the afternoon. A spot of Delta Summer (as it is now called) is on the way. Garden wise, everything has gone growth crazy and all the tomato pots have tipped over. Home made lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes for tea most night. The indoor Peppers are the way forward, if for no other reason than they are not eaten by pests. The lawn mower seems to be eating the lawn. There must be a sign there somewhere. And now 2021 is beginning to slip away.

Bear on the Fence

Dingle Road is favourite UK Railway Station if for no other reason than the name. Today there was a Teddy Bear on the fence. I liked it. Pubs are much better when you can go to the bar, but I still like contactless payments. And the Plassey Chop Bar is the best value of all my favourite Chippies. Into Crafty Devil’s Penarth Cellar, which the VOG Council is doing it’s best to make unprofitable. I suppose the £6.35 Pint I had there was to make up for it. Still quality Pint. And by that time, I’s had enough. I must be getting old, luckily it was a direct train home.

Embrace The Opaque

Commercial Street Newport Costa Coffee still not open at 07:00, despite what the Costa Website says. However the Costa at the station opens at 06:00 and the lady behind the counter was excellent. Started in The John Wallace Linton, where the Hazy Jane (my Breakfast Beer of choice) was in plentiful supply.

The Pen And Wig (Newport – Dog Friendly) for 10:02. The joy of it being back to the way it was pre Rhona, Cask and Citra to boot.

Chip shops can be tricky on a Monday, so it was Plan B and 50p more to boot. However a good sized portion and just around the corner from Tiny Rebel.

Speaking of which. In the corner by the power and now next to the organic back wall. Nothing better than slowly drinking the afternoon away. Solid Monday.
