Garden – January 2023

Usually, January and also February are months when you mainly complain about the weather really than do real gardening. However, the seed potatoes have arrived (Casablanca and Desiree) and they are are now chitting like the wind. I have also bought some potting compost and I have mint and spring onions in chocolate tubs on the window sill. The spring onion tub has a clear Tesco bag over it to create a slightly warmer micro climate. Outside I still have spring onions and the summer onions are doing well despite the recent frosts. So, the growing season has already started.

January – Gardening Update. Mostly Chitting

And we are off. Multiple containers of Casablance (first earlies), Stuttgarter to make up for the Summer Onions who did not make it through the winter. Radish, which have already germinated, various Spring Onions, some of which have already germinated. Chives (a first), Salad Leaves, Mint, Lemon Basil and some new Everbearing Strawberries on the way. The lawn has been left unmown as it is still patching. The weather hot days with a touch of overnight frost. Cooler weather in early April forecast.

Garden – June 2021

Where April started, May completed and it was a cold wash out as well. June has actually introduced Summer and I find myself hoping for more overnight rain. So due to May, everything planted out is at least two weeks behind. The earlies are just showing the first signs of flowering and it’s out with the watering can every morning to keep things going.  The first of the bush tomatoes were planted out ten minutes before the video was taken and the Cucumbers will be following then spoon. The weeds in the garden are a constant headache and I’m pulling them up every night, not that you can tell.

Garden – July 2020

June was a lot like April with lots of mixed weather and the start of July has been similar. However, I have saved on the water meter and the now fed lawn has turned green. So far, food eaten from the Garden, Strawberries, Mint, Lettuce, Red Duke of York (chipped), Spring Onions and Senshyu Yellow (Summer Onions). Weeding like the wind, as you would expect. I have some small Tomatoes but they are still green. Hoping they turn read soon. Lockdown easing.

Garden – June 2020

May 2020 was very dry, hot and very sunny. June 2020 so far it’s turning out to be a standard British Summer with some spells of rain stop play already. The Plum tree was dead and I’m slowly removing the branches and the trunk. I’m going to get some stump remover in September with maybe a new Plum or Cherry tree next Spring. Ripe Strawberries arrived just before the 01st of June and I’m having one or two every night. The garden which I was going to cover in weedkiller is now full of Potatoes, those I did not dig up last year are now coming back to feed me. Lots of Spring Onions, Onions, Tomatoes and Cucumber are well on the way to be providing my tea. Slightly less locked down.
