The First of 2021

So the first Saturday Beano of the year and what has changed. First The Queens Hotel is no longer a Wetherspoon’s Pub and it’s no longer a pub either. I’m not sure that rentable workspace ala We Work is the way forward but I wish them well. Secondly, no Pubs or Coffee Shops are open before 08:00, not even the Costa Coffee at the station. All the pubs are sign in but they all accept walk ups. In my case it was the John Wallace Linton, Pen & Wig and The Newport Tiny Rebel bar. The Harbour Fish Bar still provides the best chips in Newport and ordering of drinking in pubs is much easier with a Smartphone. Whatever your age may be. The good news was that it didn’t rain. So glad to be back Beanoing.

Cold Pubs and Buses

It’s the little things that matter, like being on the 50 bus, travelling towards Newport in the dark. Costa Coffee and Bacon Rolls and sitting in the corner in Pubs. Some things are still different, Pubs and Buses are cold, doors and windows are off to provide fresh, non stagnant air. Places open later because more people are working from home and there are less frequent buses and trains.
Christmas trees are be put up all over and our leaders are deciding what the actual cost will be.  Me I just thankful for Beanoing.

Yeasty Wednesday

When there is a new pump coming on and you wait for it, then you see all the Yeast and you realise that the cask should have rested for longer, well it was that sort of day. Getting lighter in the mornings and the nights are drawing out. Still lots of February rain though. Still it was an Emergency Beano and it did me well.
