The First Hat Wearing Since 2019

01/10/2022 Leave a comment

The first Gloucester Oktoberfest since 2019 and the hat is back in action. Apart from the peasouper on the Severn Bridge there were pretty patches of mist on the way to Gloucester. Someone, blow drying their hair set the Fire Alarm off at Premier Inn Gloucester Quays. Costa Coffee and The Lord High Constable of England for the Prelude. It rained, the Internet went down in Warehouse 4 but I had a positive attitude and genuine Okoberfest Biers. Back tomorrow and Sunday for more, also I had Chips and Sauerkraut.Β

Brew Monster Taproom – September 2022

17/09/2022 Leave a comment

It’s not all about the beers, it’s about the welcome, the ambience and of course the WiFi. This is where the Brew Monster Taproom really scores. Additionally it is in the centre of town with good public transport links. Now if I could only get them to open at 09:00 on a Saturday morning? Well, I can dream.

I met Mr Weird Dad, not weird at all. We talked Beer, specifically Greek IPAs. Which is rather novel. Excellent Beer naming and so Autumnal weather outside. It was good times.

A Gentle Sunday

Step out of the Premier Inn and the cool of the morning is instant relief. Also so is the Aircon in Spoons. An old favourite, Hazy Jane from BrewDog is an excellent start to the day. Across the road in The Punch House and it’s Neck Oil from Beavertown, FTTC too. The Robin Hood, almost a Carvery but the LandLord had seen better days. Where can you get good, not even great LandLord nowadays? Question, does live Football make up for DoomBar being your Guest Ale. These are the questions!

Orion and Austerity

Times are hard and getting harder. So the Beano, closer to home and monitor the hotel prices to get the best deal.Β  Orion in the East as the Sun comes up. A twilight and sometimes misty journey to Monmouth. Spoons opens at 07:00 as it’s a hotel and it was 4 Lattes as I battered Luma Fusion and Tweetbot. The Griffin was a revelation asΒ  I drank two Untapped Fine Ales in the strong late Summer Sun. The Old Nags Head, a classic name for a Pub and the Butty Bach went down a treat. Make the most of it while you still can.

The first Austere Mini Beano on a Bank Holiday Weekend with an Amber Travel warning. Times are hard especially with the increase in The Energy Cap. However going out with a bang with two days of all you can eat Full English (in Wales). Orion was low in the Sky in the East, a sure sign that the Summer is fading away. It was cool with misty spells on the 34 mile journey up. Although it is forecast to reach 23c this afternoon. Have some royalty free music for the video and the local Spoons has blazing fast FTTC.

The LolFfest Without The Footbridge

21/08/2022 Leave a comment

LolFfest 11 if you are interested and the closed footbridge was on the publicity materials. However, I thought it was another bridge but my step count for the day was well up. It rained but not as much as LolFfestX. The Beers were Fine but there wasn’t any Folk Music, so I couldn’t embarrass myself. I enjoyed and there were buses on time, this time. Bit sleepy afterwards and the Luma Fusion test went well.Β  Not sure when the next LolFfest will be.

Fast WiFi, good access to Public Transport (when it runs) ands the Finest of Fine Ales. Saturdays from 12:00 and an excellent view into the Brew Hall. Β Shadowfax, a Belgian Pale Ale to start, 6.0 ABV and a we3ll deserved B++. Β Jinmenju, a Blackberry and Mango Pale Ale, lovely mouthfeel, fruity, full bodied and slightly sour. Really rather good, 4.8% ABV B++. Β Hafermann, a Mosiac Cryo Pale Ale weighing in at at 4.1% and very sessionable. Β Complex, hoppy, bitter and sweet and very drinkable. Happy B++.Β

The 4K Emergency Beano

23/07/2022 Leave a comment

A late start Emergency Beano after booking a Gloucester Oktoberfest and a GooglePixel 6a. Two away from Four Thousand Untappd Uniques. Starting in the Pen and Wig (Newport) and plus one and on cask to boot.Β  The 4K was in Tiny Rebel’s Newport Bar, the corner by the bar and with a Triple Tropica, weighing in at 10% ABV, which I though was fitting. Moving on to try out Weird Day’s Taproom. It started to gently rain, which I thought was a good sign, post Amber Heat Alert. With it only being 15 minutes from the centre of town, it’s a hidden gem. Friendly staff, a great selection of beers, live Untappd and FTTC WiFi. If only it could open at 10:00 instead of 14:00. Revisit planned.
