20240107 mb01 Day 02 Wrap
All you can eat Full English to beat the cold weather. Strangely no frost. Then onto The Posset Cup, where someone had superglued a 10p to my table. I seem to have developed a taste for Doombar. Extra Nectar points at Sainsbury’s, things then back to The Siren’s calling. Drinking LocAle. Nothing Else Matters.
Superglued 10p
Strangely no frost but it was dark, chilly and with a hint of damp before my Premier Inn Full English. A 10p was superglued to the table in The Posset Cup.
Back to The Siren’s Calling. Drinking all Local Ales with some winners in cans. Nippy out. Guy playing Guitar. Nothing Else Matters.
20240106 mb01 Day 01 Wrap
The car was frosted up, so it was two hot water bottles on the dash and de-icing fluid everywhere else. The journey to the M4 was following a driver even slower than me. No frost in Portishead and Spoons was Coffee and Guest Ales. The Siren’s Calling was all Bristol and Belgian Ales. Chips from next door as well. A cold Beano but a quality Beano.
Belgian and Bristol
Looking out of the window and seeing all the parked cars frosted up. Two hot water bottles on the dash, half an hour better I left. No frost in Portishead and three guest ales in The Posset Cup.
It was a bit sunny. The Siren’s Calling was all Belgian and Bristol Ales. Rather expensive chips from next door as well. Tech support and Red Sky at night. Good 2024 times.
20240106 Prelude mb01 Portishead January 24
Minus 0.8c and a frosty start. Double hot water bottle on the dash and plenty of deicing fluid on the windscreen. A slow, even for Wales, journey to the M4. Sometimes, you follow really slow drivers. A nice, gentle drive from there in and it was just getting light as I arrived in Portishead. No frost either.
The Posset Cup to start and the afternoon in The Siren Calling. Wall to wall podcasts.
20231028 mb13 Day 01 Wrap
Wet and Windy with a 40mph speed limit on the M4. Easy to find the Travelodge and there were spaces in the Carpark. There was a Tesco Express nearby and just around the corner from it was the footbridge across the railway. Just along from the Railway Station was the Prince of Wales. The town centre was a minute or two walk. Costa for breakfast and into the Bridge House, Spoons for the rest of the morning. It was new and clean but the WiFi was slow. The Prince of excellent but no WifI, so sit near the window if you are an Untappd user. The Travelodge was also new and clean but suffered from slow WiFi, booked a Full English.
Poor Driving Conditions
Wet, windy and cold with a 40 mph speed limit on the M4 due to poor weather conditions. It was light when I arrived at the Chippenham Travelodge, which is in easy reach of a Tesco Express, The Railway Station, Sainsbury’s Local and the town centre. The Prince of Wales is just down the road from the station. The local Spoons, The Bridge House is on the banks of The River Avon but is let down by slow WiFi.
The Prince of Wales Micro. Awesome but no WiFi, so sit near the window. Awesome welcome, awesome Ales and awesome Merch too. I have to return. This has been a quality Beano.
20231104 Prelude mb14 Chippenham November 23
Cold, dark and wet to start with a 40mph poor driving conditions warning on the M4. It did actually get light by the time I arrived in Chippenham. The Travelodge is nicely sited and The Prince of Wales micro pub is just across the railway line (via the bridge). Costa Bacon Roll and Coffee to start.
