20230622 mb09 Day 01 Wrap
You leave earlier than you need to, to avoid the M4 traffic. You sit in the carpark at the Portishead Premier Inn and watch the world go by. 07:00, a Sainsbury’s meal deal for breakfast. 08:00, The Posset Cup for a fruit based drink and a bottle of Welsh Water before some Fine Ales. Curry Thursday despite there being a World Mango Chutney shortage. When you discover the Siren’s Calling doesn’t open until 16:00 on a Thursday. Back to The Posset Cup for a Doombar then check into The Premier Inn.
Planned and Planning
When do you plan your departure so that you don’t get stuck with all the motorway traffic, that’s a quality plan. When you turn up at The Siren’s Call just after 13:00 and you see that they don’t open two until 16:00 on a Thursday. That’s a total lack of planning. Anyway, it was breakfast meal deal from Sainsbury’s and then straight into The Posset Cup for 08:00, some orange juice and some bottled water which was from Brecon. Then a couple of pints, a can and a Curry Thursday. It wasn’t so bad, anyway returned back to the Posset Cup for a pint of Doombar. Then checked in to the Premier Inn.

An Optimised Traffic departure and because there are no early opening, nearby Coffee Shops in Portishead. Then, a Sainsbury’s meal deal sitting in the car. 08:00 in the cool of The Posset Cup and at 11:30 a Curry Thursday. All afternoon in The Siren’s Calling.

Clear in the dark then very foggy in the light. That was the journey from Bedwas to Portishead and Portishead really is nice, especially the Marina area. With a Sainsbury opposite the Premier Inn and a Spoons just across the bridge from Sainsbury, it’s all very compact. The Marina looked lovely with the now clearing fog on it. The Posset Cup (Spoons) was packed and the Siren’s Calling lets you eat chips from the chippy next door. Full speed FTTC WiFi and fridges with more than 100 bottles of Belgian Beers in them. Sunny in the afternoon.
The Half and Half Beano
When you have been there before but only to the Premier Inn. When it is only 39 miles from home, which is just as well as you only have half a tank. When you are rather happy because Spring has finally arrived. However, it was very foggy on the M4 and I mean a Peas Souper.
Portishead was calm and less foggy. I think I’m really going to like it. There is an iBis Budget and a Lidl in the same builder. The Spoons, The Posset Cup is not bad and has really fast FTTC WiFi. A Full English with a Pint was consumed.
The Siren’s Call. Great Cask, Keg and Bottled Ales. Also, you can bring food in from the chippy next door.

The half and half Mini Beano. I’ve stayed in The Premier Inn a number of times before but never actually visit the place. However, it now has a Bristol CAMRA Pub of the year and a Spoons. So a’Beanoing I will go. And, to start, I think Spring has finally arrived. Spoons is The Posset Cup and The CAMRA Pub is The Siren’s Calling. Turned out that as soon as it got light, it got very, very foggy.

The GMT Mini Beano
Sometimes you just want to take it easy. Sometimes it’s just because you can. But mostly it’s what I do. Wales being not up to the job and making the most of Hereford while I can. The Kings Fee has FTTC and booths. Semi Optimised departure gave me a mostly light journey and 20 extra Nectar points in Sainsbury.
Nine weeks and a new, slightly different Hereford Beer House.
