GMT arrives with two days of frost and then two days of a cutting North Wind. The upside bug has been fixed, apple updates, an election and Untappd supporter #SaturdayWrap

Stillage Fest

A sign of old age no doubt but it was just Caerphilly on the last day of my leave. It was also the first day of the Wetherspoon’s Autumn Real Ale Festival. The Malcolm Uphill has all 40 Ales and six on Stillage. Good times.

Replacement Can Half Saturday

29/09/2019 Leave a comment

The Indian Summer has gone, it’s getting dark in the mornings and the rain, well the rain, it doesn’t stop. Also as it’s the end of the month, times are getting hard. So it’s only a half day in Caerphilly and an emergency Autumn haircut. The replacement for the Sixpoint cans have arrived in Wetherspoons. One from BrewDog and the other from Oakham Ales. They are not bad but I preferred the Sixpoint Ales. It was a Cloud Burst day and I was home for One.

A week of Buggy Software and Weather Warnings

Saturday Wrap – 28 September 2019

The Indian Summer has ended and it’s been a week of wind, rain and weather warnings. A sweet Pixel 3a Android 10 upgrade. Buggy Android, Windows, iOS and iPadOS software this week and why software companies should concentrate more on quality than quantity of software. The Rugby World Cup 2019 and it’s effect on Pubs and beer. Live from The Malcolm Uphill, Caerphilly #SaturdayWrap

Lolffest7 – 03 August 2019

There is something about Lolffest or in this case Lolffest7. It’s a roughly quarterly beer festival at Bragdy Twt Lol, on the Treforest Industrial Estate in South Wales. Bragdy is Welsh for Brewery so if you are an English speaker, so of the spellings may look unusual.

A Costa Capp and Bacon Roll to start

Then of course my local Spoons, The excellent Malcolm Uphill in Caerphilly. Got to do a bit of prep of Lolffest doesn’t start until 12:00

And yes I’m early

It’s only about a 20 minute bus ride to The Treforest Industrial Estate. Get off at The Pottery. Go down the road between The Pottery and The QED Centre, cross the bridge and it’s 200m on the left hand side.

There is a sign too

Take a photo of the nut they said. I had no idea it was Aluminium.

Mostly to keep the flies out

Getting there early gets you the pick of the seats, or in this case casks. Of course I ended up in the corner.

The fridge magnets are bottle openers too. Two Quid to you Guvnor. Pretty Fly For A Magpie was the pick of the Fine Ales. The oversize glass is a winner too.

Hoppy, fruity and refreshing.

It did however rain on the way home. The Great British Summer of course.

Storm Hannah Haircut

28/04/2019 Leave a comment

Storm Hannah rolled in overnight into Saturday 27 April 2019. We had had a severe wind warning from The Met Office, so I though it would be best to get an emergency haircut else we hair would blow around. Anyway it was rather damp and blowy at the bus stop.

It may look nice but I think that’s just the camera on the iPhone. It was rather chilly I can tell you.

Standard Bacon Roll and medium Cappuccino at Costa Coffee soon sorted that out.  And on Saturdays Just Men (ladies accepted also) opens about 07:45. First in first out.

Missed the 50 to Newport by two minutes but as they are every fifteen minutes it wasn’t too bad. Strangely I was the only one on the bus all the way to Newport.

First stop was the Queens Hotel but as the only real guest ale was Son of a Bitch by Bull Mastiff, I walked in and straight back out. Plan B was The John Wallace Linton around the corner.  A pint of JHB by Oakham Ales with 50p off from a CAMRA voucher.

Moving on to the Pen and Wig on Stow Hill opposite a Church and it’s packed at 10:10 despite opening at 10:00

My first tasting from Team Toxic, Gazza and Sue and it’s a good ‘un. Same it was in a Brains glass.

Another pint, this time from Cold Black Label aka Brecon Brewing and it’s on to The Harbour Fish Bar for a tray of Chips. By the way it’s nowhere a Harbour and if it’s close to anything it’s Newport Railway Station. Best Chips in Newport by the way.

By the way the way in Newport is better now. Post Chips visit to The Tiny Rebel Bar Newport.  In to the corner next to the power sockets. It was rather full in there.
