Garden – April 2022

24/04/2022 Leave a comment

There were two really hard Sunday morning frosts in April and they did for my early planted mixed salad leaves and mint. These have now been replanted and the weather is warmer but sorely lacking in rain. Watering can to the fore despite being on a water meter. The early Casablancas are growing well and have been earthed up three times. The Desiree (main crop) are in some tiny black plastic bags. Much smaller than I thought I would get. How they fair, only time will tell. The lawn needs moving every week now and has been fed twice. I have even started to dig the garden but only a bit.

And we are off. Multiple containers of Casablance (first earlies), Stuttgarter to make up for the Summer Onions who did not make it through the winter. Radish, which have already germinated, various Spring Onions, some of which have already germinated. Chives (a first), Salad Leaves, Mint, Lemon Basil and some new Everbearing Strawberries on the way. The lawn has been left unmown as it is still patching. The weather hot days with a touch of overnight frost. Cooler weather in early April forecast.

Garden – February 2022

At almost the end of February 2022 and very little has been done. Although I have bought a bag of compost and a lawn repair kit. I’m going to mow the lawn today and plant Lemon Basil and Spring Onions. They will go in pots on the inside window sill. The chitting is coming on nicely and meteorological Spring starts on March first. Hoping for better weather but mostly rain is forecast for the first week of March.

Garden – January 2022

Two things about January. Chitting and usually High Pressure weather. With this almost up to the wire video, we have both. Mu seed potatoes have arrived and are now happily chitting away. I have emptied all the pots and bags and most of my chips in January were garden grown in 2021. Digging the garden starts in February and who knows the lawn may even need to be mowed. Winter in the garden, slow months.

Garden – December 2021

Well December is usually cold, wet and Full of Christmas. Add to that this year it’s mild and it has the second Covid Christmas. Emptied one of the Potato grow back and had chips made from Garden Potatoes, they were rather good. The main thing about December is the Christmas and Boxing Day seed catalogue sales. Obviously online, with the discount codes they send out and a Topcashback referral code. This year was no different. I filled my boots. Please rain stop enough for me to dig the garden. Happy 2022.

Garden – November 2021

Well, it took a long time but Autumn is now over and the cold of Winter has arrived. Sunny, cold and chilling winds from the North. The weeds are dying back, the lawn has had it’s last mow of the year and I’m emptying the pots of their compost. The Green Summer Onions are coming on well with the red ones following slowly behind. I’ve got some rather nice Spring Onions indoors but they are not going to last very long. It will soon be seed buying time again.
