Prelude – Beers Of The Beano – Saturday 26 April 2025
Sometimes are home Beano can be very beneficial. My choice of Fine Ales and I have already discovered a new Craft Ale Bar in Portishead. Visit plans are already going through my head. Planning too for Lolffest16 next weekend. The onlt let down is the weather, of course.
20250308 Prelude mb02 Hereford March 2025
Well, for reasons mainly. It’s good to be back in Hereford and Plus One. The Knee is nearly nominal again. I have a money off voucher for the Beer House and The Spoons Spring Beer Festival is on. All that and a warm dry weather forecast.
20240329 Prelude mb05 Gloucester March 24
The cold, Good Friday mini beano but at least the journey up was light, even if the clocks go forward over the weekend. Quicktime Player and a 1.45GB short, well that’s not good.
The journey up was much lighter than I thought it would be but not forecast, it rained all the way. With some very heavy rain on the M5. Costa’s website didn’t say that it would have later opening on Good Friday. Sainsbury’s opened as normal on a Friday and its website confirmed that.
Breakfast was in Spoons, not Costa therefore and it was cheaper too. Gloucester Brewery, The Pelican and The Hop kettle throughout the weekend.

20240309 Prelude mb04 Chippenham March 24
There’s me hoping it will be a mostly light journey to Chippenham and then the weather forecast tells me that it will be wet. Ah! Spring. Still, another year around the Sun.
The Plan, stock up with food for tea. Costa for a Coffee and Bacon Roll, Spoons for the Festival Ales and then The Prince of Wales for Craft Ales. Simple but effective.
20240217 Prelude mb02 Portishead February 24
So it starts with new hardware for the Unplugged video. From Windows to Mac and 720 to 1080. The weather forecast says there may be fog on the way down and a Yellow Warning of Rain from 15:00.
Light rain and drizzle with just the odd hint of mist on the way down. It immediately become light as I got of The Severn Bridge and came into England. It’s mild and semi sunny, at least for now.
In The Posset Cup, all you can drink Coffee until the bar opens at 09:00. Going well.

20240106 Prelude mb01 Portishead January 24
Minus 0.8c and a frosty start. Double hot water bottle on the dash and plenty of deicing fluid on the windscreen. A slow, even for Wales, journey to the M4. Sometimes, you follow really slow drivers. A nice, gentle drive from there in and it was just getting light as I arrived in Portishead. No frost either.
The Posset Cup to start and the afternoon in The Siren Calling. Wall to wall podcasts.
20230825 Prelude mb11 Hereford August 23
A year ago for late summer bank holiday weekend, it was 2 nights in Monmouth. This year, it’s 3 nights in Hereford. It’s been such a Year. Mostly light on the journey up and the transcription was a little off. Good Beanoing Times are back.

20230623 Prelude mb10 Hereford June 23
Starting in Premier Inn, Portishead with an All You Can Eat Full English. It’s rather cloudy. Then avoid the traffic with a late start, it’s off to Hereford via Newport. Get Petrol, park up and then a Costa with a Bacon Roll. The Orange Tree for Real Ales and Filled Rolls.
20230617 Prelude mb08 Newton June 23
mb08, starting in Wales, overnighting in Wales and finishing in Wales. A little rain pre start but I still got the watering can out. I planned on stopping, mid journey and having a Crusader II boiled coffee. However it was rainy and the the tyre pressure warning light came on. Stopped a little later when the rain slowed and pumped both fronts up. They were fine. By now the coffee window had gone. So, I cleaned the brake dust off my hands and some ferns and restarted my journey to Newtown. Full Mid Welsh in the local Tesco.
